GEFONT Objects to the Decision to Abolish Trade Unions in the Education Sector

GEFONT has strongly objected to the statement issued by Education Minister Mahabir Pun, which aims to dissolve trade unions active in the education sector.

In a statement released on Sunday, GEFONT warned that it is prepared to pay any price to safeguard the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution and to protect trade union freedom against such dissolution efforts.

GEFONT also expressed solidarity with professional trade union movements, including those of teachers and professors.

GEFONT Expresses Regret Over the Decision of Hyatt Management

The General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) has expressed regret over the decision of the Hyatt Regency management to terminate all workers at once under the pretext of renovation after the vandalism that occurred during the Gen-Z movement, which had forced the hotel to shut down.

GEFONT states that Hyatt Hotel management, ignoring the process of dialogue, has taken an inhumane decision to dismiss 133 permanent and around 350 contract workers. This action is a violation of the Labour Act, an attack on industrial peace, and a cruel assault on workers’ rights.
