In this episode: 1️⃣ Rising Deaths of Nepali Migrant Workers Abroad An alarming report shows that an average of 127 Nepali migrant workers are dying every month in the current fiscal year — a sharp increase compared to last year. Many deaths occur due to industrial accidents, cardiac arrest, road accidents, and in some cases, unexplained causes. The number could be even higher when including deaths of workers who leave without labour approval. 2️⃣ Government Publishes List of 171 Health Institutions The Ministry of Labour, Employment, and Social Security has published a list of 171 approved medical institutions for migrant workers’ health check-ups. A special task force was formed to make the health examination process more scientific. 3️⃣ GEFONT Banke District Committee Meeting The GEFONT Banke District Committee held its 6th meeting on November 22, 2025. The meeting decided to strengthen the organization and launch a membership expansion & renewal campaign. 4️⃣ “We Build, Our GEFONT” Campaign Support continues for the reconstruction of GEFONT’s Manmohan Labour Building, damaged during the Gen-Z movement. In this episode: 1️⃣ JTUCC High-Level Dialogue Program The Joint Trade Union Coordination Centre (JTUCC) organized a high-level dialogue on labour, employment challenges, and future direction in Nepal’s changing context. GEFONT President Binod Shrestha highlighted that the labour sector is the most affected by the shifting political environment, increasing frustration among workers. He also criticized the Education Minister’s recent unlawful remarks threatening union freedom, and stressed that many workers — including those in nursing — are still denied minimum wages. Leaders from GEFONT, ITUC, and FES participated in this important discussion. 2️⃣ Air India Contract Workers to Be Appointed as Permanent Staff The Labour and Occupational Safety Department has directed Air India to provide permanent employment to seven workers whose contracts had ended — Samir Pokharel, Santosh Dulal, Jayaram Raut, Sunil Twayana, Deepak Ale Magar, Nayan Budha, and Rajesh Gurung — as per Section 163(2) of the Labour Act 2017. Key leaders paid heartfelt tribute: Shankar Pokharel, CPN-UML General Secretary, expressed deep condolences and highlighted Gautam’s irreplaceable presence in today’s political context. Bishnu Rimal, CPN-UML Deputy General Secretary & GEFONT Patron, recalled working alongside Gautam for three decades and reflected on his historic contributions to Nepal’s trade union and communist movements. Binod Shrestha, GEFONT President, honored Gautam’s legacy, stating: “A workers’ leader may die, but the movement does not die.” He emphasized that Gautam’s sacrifice, dedication, and lifelong commitment will remain eternal in the hearts of Nepal’s working class.
