The Whole Industry Trade Union Nepal (WHIN) Koshi Province Committee organized a training and workers’ gathering on contribution-based social security in Biratnagar on November 13.
The chief guest of the training program, General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) Koshi Province President Kishor Dhamala, discussed GEFONT’s policies and programs and its campaigns in the context of contribution-based social security.
Similarly, WHIN Central Vice President Manoj Magar provided information about labor laws and regulations in the program, while Deepak Raj Bhatta, Branch Chief of the Social Security Fund Biratnagar Office, highlighted the agenda of contribution-based social security.
The program, which was chaired by WHIN Koshi Province President Nabin Chaudhary, was conducted by Province Secretary Ganesh Magar.
Central Union of Painters, Plumbers, Electro and Construction Workers-Nepal (CUPPEC) Central Committee, affiliated to the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT), has organized a Lead exposure examination of painters and electricians working in the painting profession at the GEFONT School in Anamnagar, Kathmandu on November 12.
In a program chaired by CUPPEC Nepal Central President Shanta Basnet, Dr. Bibek Pant of Samyak Diagnostic informed that long-time workers in the painting and electrical professions get diagnosed with silent diseases like sugar and pressure which this has a major impact on the nervous system, so Lead exposure test is necessary for this as it can be prevented if treated in time.
23 workers were tested in the Lead testing program conducted by CUPPEC Central General Secretary Rajendra Basnet.
The 40th central committee meeting of the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) affiliated union Nepal Street Vendors’ Union was held successfully on the 13th of September at the GEFONT Trade Union School.
In the meeting presided over by the central president Maya Gurung, GEFONT president Binod Shrestha addressed the meeting and said that the coordination between the structure of GEFONT and the union, the problems seen in the organization, and its strengths and shortcomings should be reviewed in the meeting and future meetings should be held based on the conclusion of the review.
Chairman Shrestha said that the meeting should discuss market management, the problems of the union workers, the leadership development of youth and women, and the role of the union itself and GEFONT in the meeting and wished the meeting success. GEFONT Vice President Bidur Karki and General Secretary Laxman Sharma were also present in the meeting.

Central Union of Painters, Plumbers, Electro and Construction Workers-Nepal (CUPPEC) conducted a 1-day leadership development training program in Makwanpurgadhi Village on the 12th of September under the organization of Makwanpur District Education Department.
The district president of the training program Pralad Rai gave training about the structure and role of the members of GEFONT, while the district secretary Budh Bahadur BK gave training about the history and program of CUPPEC Nepal. The program was conducted by the municipality secretary Arjun Prasad Ghimire.
CPN-UML Makwanpurgadhi Municipal Committee Chairman Jit Bahadur Ghimire and other guests participated in the program.
Nepal Street Vendors' Union (NEST) Thela Bazar Unit Bhimdatta Municipal Committee has submitted a letter of attention regarding management of workplace in Bhimdatta Municipality.
In the attention letter submitted on the 4th of August, 9 issues including the continuation of the halted building process of Thela Bazar, management of toilets, registration of self-employed workers, confiscation of goods of self-employed workers by the city police, and stopping of house arrests are mentioned.
The Thirteenth Annual Meeting and Seventh Session of the National Beauticians’ Union of Nepal Amarsingh Unit Committee (Pokhara) was held on August 2nd at Buddha Chowk in Pokhara with the main slogan of safe and dignified employment, rights of beauticians.
The aforementioned 7th convention, which was held with the coordinator of GEFONT Parliamentary and Local Level Mina Gurung as the chief guest, elected a committee of 11 people under the presidency of Tika Ale.
In the program chaired by Dipu Thapa, GEFONT National Committee Member and NABUN Representative Council Chief Suman Gurung, GEFONT Gandaki Deputy Secretary and Women's Committee President Sangita Pandey and NABUN Central Member Nur Gurung were guests.
