Meeting Held Between GEFONT Leadership and Representatives of DGB and BWI South Asia

A meeting was held at the central office of the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) on November 3, 2025, between the GEFONT leadership and representatives from the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) and BWI South Asia.

GEFONT General Secretary Laxman Sharma and Foreign Affairs Department Secretary Smriti Lama briefed the delegates about Nepal’s trade union movement and the current political environment. CUPPEC-Nepal President Shanta Basnet, affiliated with GEFONT, was also present at the meeting.

GEFONT Has Been Standing Firm to Defend Democracy: GEFONT President Shrestha

The fourth general assembly of the Public Service International (PSI) Nepal Affiliated Committee, held on 9 November 2025 in Kathmandu, has elected a seven-member committee under the leadership of Uttam Kumar Katuwal.

Addressing the assembly as the chief guest, GEFONT President Binod Shrestha stated that the labour sector has also been affected following the protests of October 9 and 10. He said that due to the vandalism and arson carried out by anarchist groups in the name of the protest, thousands of workers have been rendered unemployed.

President Shrestha stressed that the workers’ movement can survive only if democracy is protected, and therefore, GEFONT has been standing firm in its efforts to defend democracy.

At the program, Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC) President Yogendra Kunwar, GEFONT-affiliated NEVA President Geeta Thing, and others extended their best wishes.

Memorial Meeting on the 13th Day of Kamal Gautam’s Passing

On the 13th day of the death of former GEFONT Vice President Kamal Gautam—who passed away due to a heart attack while addressing a protest program concerning the employment crisis faced by workers—a memorial meeting was organized on 12 November 2025. The program was led by GEFONT National Committee Member Purna K.C. and held among workers employed in the industrial sector of Nepalganj under GEFONT Lumbini Province.

Similarly, on the same day, the GEFONT Bagmati Province Office in Kathmandu and the Makawanpur District Coordination Committee have organized a condolence meeting in Hetaida.
