Congratulations to Bagmati Province Minister for Labour, Employment, and Transport, Hon. Jayaram Thapa

The General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT), Bagmati Province President Ram Hari Nepal, extended congratulations and best wishes to the newly appointed Minister Thapa on behalf of the province, while also offering suggestions regarding the problems and solutions seen in the labour market.

On August 19, 2025, the Bagmati Province Coordination Committee of the Joint Trade Union Coordination Centre (JTUCC) and members of the Labour Advisory Council extended congratulations and best wishes for a successful tenure to Hon. Minister Jayaram Thapa, newly appointed Minister for Labour, Employment, and Transport of Bagmati Province.

Training of Trainers Workshop in Mongolia Organized by FES

With the aim of building skilled manpower in trade unions to make the labor movement effective and strong, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Asia Pacific organized a Training of Trainers (ToT) on the Power Resource Approach (PRA) for the Future of Work in Mongolia from August 26, 2025.

The training, which will run until August 30, 2025, featured on the first day a session titled “Problems to Goal”. In the session, Smriti Lama, Secretary of the Foreign Department of the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT), shared her experiences on approaches to working style and strategies, and presented practical knowledge and skills on the use of the Power Resource Approach (PRA).

The training is being facilitated by Dina Feller, author of the Power Resource Approach Toolkit and a trade union trainer, along with Chao Cabatingan, Program Manager of FES Philippines. Trade union leaders from Nepal, India, Pakistan, Thailand, Mongolia, and the Philippines are participating.

GEFONT’s Greetings on the Occasion of Chhath Festival

On the occasion of the Chhath Festival 2025, the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) extends its best wishes for happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepali brothers and sisters residing in Nepal and abroad.

GEFONT believes that this festival, celebrated through the worship of Sun God and Chhathi Mata, inspires all Nepalis to end class-based, caste-based, gender-based, and all other forms of discrimination, superstitions, and social anomalies; to promote and preserve our indigenous culture; to strengthen mutual harmony; and to enhance national unity among all Nepalis.

GEFONT Provides Medical Assistance

The General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) has extended financial assistance for the medical treatment of Dhupa Devi Rai, former central member and current Central Women’s Committee Secretary of the Central Union of Painter, Plumber, Electro and Construction Workers, Nepal (CUPPEC-Nepal), an affiliate of GEFONT.

Rai recently underwent surgery at R.A. Neuro Hospital, Kanchanbari, Biratnagar, due to a blood clot in her head. From the GEFONT Solidarity Fund, a support amount of NPR 25,000, and from CUPPEC-Nepal, an additional NPR 16,100 in cash were handed over to Rai’s daughter, Laxmi Rana, at the hospital on October 25, 2025, by GEFONT Deputy General Secretary Narnath Luitel and Koshi Province President Kishor Dhamala.

Condolence Meeting in Butwal on the 5th Day of Late Kamal Gautam’s Passing

Organized by the GEFONT Lumbini Province Committee, a condolence meeting was held at his residence in Butwal on November 3, 2025 to mark the 5th day of the passing of the late Comrade Kamal Gautam.

GEFONT Lumbini Province President Humakanta Kafle shed light on Comrade Kamal Gautam’s personal and organizational life, while GEFONT National Committee Secretary Hari Karki delivered condolence remarks.
