Cleaning and security workers at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences submitted a memorandum to the institute’s officials on May 28th. The memorandum demanded the continuation of the health card benefits that were discontinued by the institute, immediate payment of the increased minimum wage that has been in effect since last August, and the provision of remaining old salaries. The memorandum was submitted on behalf of the Nepal Security Workers Trade Union and the Nepal Cleaning Employees Union, affiliated with the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Union (GEFONT) to the Vice-Chancellor Dr. Gyanendra Giri, Registrar Surya Prasad Sangraula, Director Jagat Narayan Prasad Shah, and Dean Dr. Sanjib Sharma.

GEFONT National Committee member and Central President of the ITWAN, Bhimjwala Rai, handed over the memorandum, warning the officials that the achievements like the health card, gained through repeated movements and cooperation, are being gradually taken away. If the workers' issues are not addressed, another movement will be initiated.

Furthermore, the memorandum mentioned that it has been almost four years since the Labour Court ruled that the KTM Security Company must pay workers 10 Million for salaries and other benefits. However, the workers have not received this payment yet. Therefore, the amount should be deducted from the payment due to KTM Security Company by the institute and provided to the workers.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Gyanendra Giri, while receiving the memorandum, assured that the issues would be addressed promptly so that the workers would not need to resort to further agitation.

Leaders present to submit the memorandum included GEFONT leader Bhimjwala Rai, Central Vice-President of the Nepal Garbage Cleaner employees Union (NGCEU) Yamkala Magrati, Dharan Municipal President Ganesh Yonghang, GEFONT Dharan Municipal President Shamsher Bardewa, President of the Nepal Security Service Trade Union (NSSTU) Janak Sunuwar, Vice-President Ratna Nembang, Secretary Prabin Rai, Central Member of the ITWAN Laxmi Baniya, and President of Security Workers Dharan Municipal Committee Gopi Yogi, among others.
