Summary The conversation features GEFONT host Smriti Lama speaking with Donna from the International Women’s Alliance and Noel from People Over Profit, both of whom participated in the Global Worker Study Conference held in Kathmandu from October 28 to 30. The guests introduce themselves and highlight the success of the conference, which brought together over 100 participants from 21 countries, including trade union leaders, activists, and representatives from civil society. They explain that the event focused on major global labour issues such as: • Low wages, unemployment, and informality • Repression of trade union rights • Women’s multiple burdens, exploitation, and vulnerability to violence • Challenges faced by migrant workers Donna emphasizes the importance of incorporating women’s voices, as many women—especially migrant women—work in the informal sector and experience unique hardships. A key outcome of the conference was the decision to build a global coordination platform called All Workers United, aimed at strengthening solidarity among workers’ organizations across cities, countries, and regions. The initiative encourages local, national, and global collaboration to address common struggles such as rising living costs, political repression, and anti-democratic threats. Both guests appreciate GEFONT’s strong organizing capacity, training programs, and outreach to Nepali migrant workers abroad. They note that the situation of workers worldwide is increasingly similar and dire, making solidarity more necessary than ever. The discussion concludes with the speakers expressing gratitude, mentioning that the only thing missing from the conference was more time. They praise Nepal as a meaningful host and express hope for continued cooperation with GEFONT to strengthen global workers’ unity. #GEFONT #WorldOfWork #WorkersConference #GlobalWorkerStudyConference #AllWorkersUnited #TradeUnionMovement #WorkersOfTheWorldUnite #LabourRights #WorkersSolidarity #InternationalSolidarity #WomenWorkers #MigrantWorkers #WorkersStruggle #SocialJustice #KathmanduConference #NepalLabourMovement #PeopleOverProfit #InternationalWomensAlliance #DecentWork #WorkersVoices #GlobalLabourIssues
