In an event organised by the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Union

(GEFONT) affiliated Nepal Independent Hotel, Casino and Restaurant Workers’ Union (NIHWU) Gokarna Forest Resort Enterprise Level committee, a merit-based social security conference was conducted successfully on June 10. Retired workers were honoured in the conference held in the auditorium of the resort.

While honouring the retired workers, the chief guest and GEFONT President Binod Shrestha discussed the achievements of the Nepali Trade Union Movement to change the condition of workers. President Shrestha also shed light on the role of GEFONT in mission two million and to reimplement a ten percent service charge in the hotel sector.

Director of Contribution-Based Social Security Fund Uttam Nepal, Central President of NIHWU Lakshman Tiwari, Joint Secretary of GEFONT Bagmati Gopal Karki, central member of NIHWU Keshab Sapkota, and Tek Bahadur Paudel voiced their opinion at the event. The conference and honour program was held under the chairmanship of Ramji Shrestha, President of NIHWU Gokarna Forest Resort Foundation.

GEFONT support group rescues woman from Kuwait

The General Federation of Nepalese Trade Union (GEFONT) Support Group rescued Chandamaya Chepang who went to Kuwait 3 months prior and returned her to Nepal on 6th June.

35-year-old Chepang of Benighat Rorang Ward No. 6 (previously Jogimara VDC) of Dhading District was sent to Kuwait 3 months ago by a local agent, Binod Chepang, under the lie of a free foreign employment visa and a free ticket. According to Chandramaya, after arriving in Kuwait, another agent named Prem of Kuwait sold her to a house owner in Kuwait for $650 after which she found out that she was sent on a visit visa instead.

Chandramaya had requested GEFONT for rescue through a friend when she was demanded 350,000 for her request to go back home after she was unable to work because of illness due to working 18 hours every day at home.

Sarita Kumari Sah as the President of NABUN Janakpur

The National Beautician Union, Nepal (NABUN) has formed a 7-member sub-metropolitan committee under the chairmanship of Sarita Kumari Sah in a gathering of beauty workers in Janakpur sub-metropolitan city on June 3, 2024.

General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) Dhanusha District Coordination Committee President Ramchandra Mandal chaired the meeting and Chief Guest, GEFONT National Committee Member and Nabun Coordinator Pampha Devkota Pahari, GEFONT Madhesh Province President Kamlesh Jha, NABUN Central Secretary Sujana Joshi and others congratulated the elected committees.

NABUN central member and Madhesh in-charge Sumitra Sapkota, GEFONT former national committee member Ram Naresh Singh, Sheila Jha, Bindu Srivastab, and other leaders participated in the program.

19th Meeting of JTG-CWUN

Binod Shrestha, President of the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Union (GEFONT), has emphasized that along with the changes in the labour world, the trade union movement should also advance the work according to the time and situation.

President Shreshtha said this while addressing the 19th meeting of Jute, Garment, Carpet, Textile Workers Union Nepal (JTG-CWUN) held on 3rd June 2024 at GEFONT Assembly Hall.

In the meeting held under the chairmanship of JTG-CWUN President Arjun Adhikari, GEFONT General Secretary Laxman Sharma said that the policies and programs passed by GEFONT's Congress should be linked with the work of the union and emphasized that a plan should be made to face the challenges that emerged in the labour movement.

NABUN Jitpur-Simara sub-metropolitan committee convention

National Beauticians Union Nepal (NABUN) Madhesh Province and Jitpursimara sub-metropolitan committee meeting held in Simra on 2nd of June 2024, elected 7 members in Madhesh province committee and 11 members in Jitpursimara sub-metropolitan committee under the chairmanship of Om Kumari Sharma.

General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) national committee member and NABUN central coordinator Pampha Devkota Pahari was the chief guest of the conference, and the leaders of GEFONT Madhesh Province Kamalesh Jha, Secretary Mukti Chaudhary, NABUN Central Secretary Sujana Joshi and other leaders wished the success of the convention.

NABUN Madhesh Province President Sumitra Sapkota chaired the session. Chief guest Nabun Coordinator Pahari spoke about the history and importance of NABUN and administered the oath to both the newly elected committees.

GEFONT Madhesh State President Kamlaesh Jha shed light on the GEFONT structure and contribution-based social security, while NABUN Central Secretary Sujana Joshi shed light on NABUN's structure, members' duties and rights.

CUPPEC-Nepal will add 15 thousand new members

The 4th National Congress Delegate Council Meeting of the Central Union of Painter, Plumber, Electricity and Construction Workers-Nepal (CUPPEC-Nepal) was held in Butwal on June 1, 2024.

The meeting chaired by the head of Congress Delegate Council, Narnath Luitel, conducted by the deputy head, Smriti Lama, issued a 15-point upcoming program and a 7-point manifesto.

The meeting decided to add 15,000 new members and 60 percent renewal and expand the organization to 315 municipalities next year.

In the same way, the meeting has decided to give priority to the members to use GEFONT Apps to create membership digitally, conduct organization expansion and operational campaigns with main priority in big projects, women and youth-focused programs, etc.

In the 4th national congress delegate council meeting which was inaugurated by General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) President Binod Shrestha on May 31, chief guest Shrestha gave certificates of appreciation to Makwanpur, Lalitpur, Nawalparasi and Myagdi districts which were the best in membership expansion campaign last year.
