Leadership development training held successfully at CUPPEC Makwanpurgadhi

Central Union of Painters, Plumbers, Electro and Construction Workers-Nepal (CUPPEC) conducted a 1-day leadership development training program in Makwanpurgadhi Village on the 12th of September under the organization of Makwanpur District Education Department.

The district president of the training program Pralad Rai gave training about the structure and role of the members of GEFONT, while the district secretary Budh Bahadur BK gave training about the history and program of CUPPEC Nepal. The program was conducted by the municipality secretary Arjun Prasad Ghimire. 

CPN-UML Makwanpurgadhi Municipal Committee Chairman Jit Bahadur Ghimire and other guests participated in the program.

 

INSP!R Asia delegation visits GEFONT Trade Union Policy Institute

The delegation of Cambodia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Philippines and other countries participating in the 2nd World Pioneering Nations Asian Meeting in Kathmandu on the 12th of September visited the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) Trade Union Policy Institute in Anamnagar on 12th of September.

While welcoming the delegation, GEFONT President Binod Shrestha said that GEFONT is advancing Nepal’s trade union movement by learning and teaching from the global trade union movement. He also mentioned the achievements of GEFONT in the Nepalese trade union movement.

Chairman Shrestha expressed his belief that the trade union movement of Nepal can learn something from their experience in the labor movement, which will help the labor movement not only in Nepal but also in the entire labor world. 

In the program, Bidur Karki, Vice President of GEFONT, spoke about the policies and programs of GEFONT, Trade Union Policy Institute, GEFONT Trade Union School and GEFONT Research Center.

In the event conducted by GEFONT Secretary General Laxman Sharma, WSM INSP!R Asia Coordinator Bismark Sanyoto expressed his gratitude for giving information about GEFONT and its work.

GEFONT rescues woman from Kuwait

Manmaya Sunar of Belbari Municipality Ward No. 3 of Morang was able to return home on 7th of August with the help of GEFONT Migrant Desk Kuwait.

A local agent took her to Kuwait saying he would take her to Dubai for foreign employment. After falling victim to the “free visa, free ticket” scam, Manmaya was forced to work 18 hours a day as a tortured domestic worker after arriving there.

Manmaya Sunar, who came in contact with GEFONT to return her to Nepal, was informed by Janak BK of GEFONT Migrant Desk then they managed to return Manmaya Sunar to Nepal within 5 days with all the expenses borne by the agent.

Meeting held between GEFONT Publicity Department and Province Presidents.

A virtual meeting was held between the Publicity and Publication Department and GEFONT Provincial Presidents on the subject of improving the publicity of GEFONT on August 6.

Addressing the meeting, President Binod Shrestha shed light on the policies of GEFONT in terms of publicity and publication and the coordinating role between the provincial committee and the department.

Vice President and Department Head Jitendra Shrestha said that the role of publicity is integral to further strengthen the trade union movement being led by GEFONT.

In the virtual meeting, Publicity and Publication Department Secretary Mahendralal Shrestha gave clarification on the role of the provinces in the work to be done in the coming days.

On that occasion, the GEFONT Province Presidents gave brief information and suggestions regarding the situation in their hand.

178 employees working in Lumbini Development Fund listed in social security.

178 employees working in the Lumbini Development Fund have been registered in the Social Security Fund.

For the past 3 years, the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) has been taking initiatives to enlist the workers employed on contracts in the Lumbini Development Fund in the contribution-based Social Security Fund. After prolonged effort, Lumbini Development Fund has finally started enlisting workers and collecting funds from August 2024.
 

NEST Bhimdatta Nagar Committee demands management of workplace.

Nepal Street Vendors' Union (NEST) Thela Bazar Unit Bhimdatta Municipal Committee has submitted a letter of attention regarding management of workplace in Bhimdatta Municipality.

In the attention letter submitted on the 4th of August, 9 issues including the continuation of the halted building process of Thela Bazar, management of toilets, registration of self-employed workers, confiscation of goods of self-employed workers by the city police, and stopping of house arrests are mentioned.
