CUPPEC- Nepal is a national federation of the workers of construction sector. It was launched in May 31, 1997 by unifying four different federations in construction sector- Nepal independents electricity workers' union, Nepal independent Painters' union, Independent plumbers' union and Nepal independent Construction workers' union.
The union organises the masons, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, house painters, hoarding board and sign board makers, workers in marbles and chips factories, constructing bridges, roads, canals, buildings, hydropower, furnace, gardens, mines, wood works etc.
This is the second largest sector after Agriculture in Nepal. This federation has been expanded upto 52 districts of 13 zones of the country.
It has been affiliated with GEFONT since 2000 and it has been globally affiliated with one of the Global Union Federations- BWI.
The convention of GEFONT-affiliated Union CUPPEC Nepal Tanahun District held on December 5 has elected a 15-member district committee under the chairmanship of Bam Bahadur Thapa Magar.
The convention, held under the chief guestship of CUPPEC President Shanta Basnet, was attended by leaders including CPN-UML Tanahun District Secretary Pradeep Adhikari, CUPPEC Central General Secretary Rajendra Bista, Deputy General Secretary Som Bahadur Ale and Secretary Punya Prasad Upreti.
The 55th meeting of the Central Committee of the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Union (GEFONT) affiliate CUPPEC-Nepal was held on December 10 under the chairmanship of President Santa Basnet.
The meeting, held in the presence of GEFONT General Secretary Laxman Sharma was focused on the upcoming work proposal, income and expenditure details, organization strengthening and membership expansion campaign.
It was also decided in the meeting that a campaign would be effectively conducted in all seven provinces to enroll 13,000 new members in the GEFONT Rejuvenation Campaign-2081. The virtual meeting was held online using modern technology.
The representative council meeting of Central Union of Painters, Plumbers, Electro and Construction Workers-Nepal (CUPPEC-Nepal) Morang District Committee was held on December 11 under the chairmanship of Santa Bahadur Kumal.
The council meeting held with CUPPEC Vice President Ambir Lingden as the chief guest, was attended by Deputy General Secretary Muktinath Giri, GEFONT Koshi Province Committee Secretary Suryaprakash Khawas, Deputy Secretary and Province Women Committee Chairperson Doma Giri and other leaders.
Similarly, the seventh convention of CUPPEC Makawanpur District Gadhi Village Committee held on December 13 has elected an 11-member committee chaired by Bill Bahadur Syantan.
Central Union of Painters, Plumbers, Electro and Construction Workers-Nepal (CUPPEC-Nepal) Bara District's sixth convention held on December 14 at General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) Assembly Hall Simara has elected a 15-member committee under the chairmanship of Shreepaldash Tamma.
The chief guest of the convention, GEFONT Madesh Province President Kamlesh Jha wished the convention success and highlighted the GEFONT's rejuvenation campaign that will be launching from December 16.
CPN-UML Central Member Saraswati Chaudhary, Central Vice-President Man Bahadur BK, Member Shoma Khatiwada, GEFONT Provincial Secretary Mukti Chaudhary and other leaders wished for the success of the convention during the inauguration session of the program presided by Singha Bahadur and moderated by Dhaneshwor Kushwaha.
On the occasion of GEFONT's rejuvenation campaign 2081 to be launched by the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) from December 16, Central Union of Painters, Plumbers, Electro and Construction Workers Nepal (CUPPEC Nepal) Bardiya District Committee held a planning meeting on December 18 to mobilize its members and resources.
In the meeting held under the chairmanship of District President Kaviram BK, GEFONT National Committee Member Purna Bahadur KC highlighted the importance and objectives of the campaign.
Similarly, CUPPEC General Secretary Rajendra Bista highlighted contribution based social security as well as the conclusion of the 55th meeting of the Central Committee.
Central Secretary Padam Budhamagar, Central Member Maniram Dhungana and GEFONT Lumbini Province Member and Bardiya In-charge Durga Bahadur KC also participated in the meeting.
