National gathering on ‘Trade Union Leadership for Gender Equality’ concludes.

President Binod Shrestha has said that the establishment of Trade Union committee for Gender Equality and Promotion (TUC-GEP) has proved to be a milestone in establishing gender equality and class issues as common issues in the trade union movement of Nepal, despite differing opinions.

Addressing the national gathering on ‘Trade Union Leadership for Gender Equality’ held in Lalitpur on December 22, President Shrestha expressed confidence that the national gathering will draw conclusions on how to move forward in the future by evaluating the work done throughout history.

It was emphasized that the trade union movement should not only work for gender equality but also to take the trade union and the country to a higher level. NTUC President Yogendra Kunwar conveyed his best wishes at the inauguration program chaired by ITUC-NAC President Jagat Simkhada.

Solidarity Center Director Luna Ranjit highlighted the objectives of the program, followed by a group discussion on the topic in the second phase of the program.

The program was moderated by Radha Kuikel, and the welcome speech was given by GEFONT Vice President Sita Lama. Pushpa Bhusal presented a working paper on the identification of common gender issues in the workplace, as well as a review and future direction of work.

The program was attended by former Vice President and GEFONT Senior Unionist Network President Bina Shrestha, former Deputy General Secretary of GEFONT Binda Pandey, former Vice Presidents of NTUC MPs Rama Poudel, Sudha Dahal and Keshamaya Shrestha, and the leadership of all three unions.
