The Nepal Home Workers’ Trade Union (HUN), affiliated with the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT), organized a program to mark International Domestic Workers’ Day on October 20, 2025.
The event, chaired by HUN Central President Chandra Sagar Lama, featured GEFONT President Binod Shrestha as the chief guest. Extending best wishes on the occasion, President Shrestha highlighted the role of the trade union movement in Nepal’s changing political context.

Condemning the recent vandalism and looting of the GEFONT building by anarchic groups, he stated that the damage caused to the – workers’ building—built with workers’ sweat— will be restored and rebuilt in a more organized and modern way with the solidarity and support of workers themselves.

GEFONT Vice President Jitendra Shrestha also extended greetings on International Domestic Workers’ Day, Tihar, and Nepal Sambat 1146, expressing hope that despite the difficult situation caused by destructive activities and natural disasters, the ongoing festivals would inspire harmony, peace, and hope in Nepali society.
The program was conducted by HUN General Secretary Gyanu KC.
