The General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) held a virtual interaction with migrant workers on December 18 with the main slogan "Regular Contribution to Social Security - Protection of Workers' Rights".
During the interaction program, GEFONT President Binod Shrestha wished all workers on the occasion of International Migrant Workers' Day. He informed that GEFONT, which has been active in many countries, has started its activities in Europe, America and Japan as well with the slogan "Where there are workers, there is GEFONT".
President Shrestha said that GEFONT has been demanding "employment with fair wages inside the country" for years and that the vision of making foreign employment a matter of choice instead of compulsion, remains. The interaction, facilitated by Foreign Affairs Secretary Smriti Lama, was attended by about 40 migrant workers from Malaysia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Japan and the US, along with GEFONT officials and secretariat staff.
