In an event marking the second anniversary of the Riders Union Nepal (RUN), affiliated with the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT), on 8 August 2025, GEFONT President Binod Shrestha stated that GEFONT is clear, committed, and actively engaged in securing legal recognition and protection for workers in digital platforms.
President Shrestha noted that with the development of digital technology and modern transportation systems, ride-sharing services have emerged as a new form of employment. He added that the use of ride-sharing services in Nepal has grown rapidly in recent years, and GEFONT is committed to ensuring legal recognition and protection for workers in the digital employment sector. He further informed that at the international level, work has already begun to draft an ILO Convention with standards to protect the rights of workers engaged in this sector.
Turning this second anniversary into a source of new energy, commitment, and unity, President Shrestha also urged for stronger steps to be taken toward securing workers’ rights.
The event was chaired by RUN President Madhav Pandey and conducted by General Secretary Santosh Khatri.
Similarly, on the occasion of the anniversary, the Chitwan District Committee organized a greeting exchange program along with a Dipawali celebration.
