Tea workers have staged protests in four tea estates of Jhapa District — Gaurishankar, Riddhiganesh, Surya, and Naz Tea Estate.
According to Santa Kumar Rai, President of the Tea and Coffee Workers’ Union, Nepal (TCWUN), the protest was triggered after their demands went unheard, which include: employing workers only after signing employment contracts following the Labour Act, providing gratuity, provident fund, and festival allowances as per the Labour Act, and ensuring that all workers are enlisted in the contribution-based Social Security Fund.
More than 200 workers have stopped work and joined the protest in Gaurishankar, Surya, and Riddhiganesh of Bhadrapur-2 since August 3, 2025, and in Naz Tea Estate of Mechinagar-3 since August 5, 2025.
