Kathmandu, GEFONT Vice President Cde. Jitendra Shrestha said that since 1994 just after 5 years of GEFONT establishment, GEFONT has been working for the rights of the Nepali migrant workers with the slogan “GEFONT is there, where the workers are”.
Speaking in the Fourth Conference of the ITUC- AP on October 7 – 9 in Japan, Vice President Shrestha recalled that the GEFONT support group was formed in 1995 by organizing Nepali migrant workers in Korea and he has appreciated the cooperation of KCTU for this.
GEFONT has adopted a different approach to mobilize migrant workers in destination countries, organizing Nepali migrant workers, forming a GEFONT support group, connecting with trade unions of the respective countries, signing MOU with trade unions of destination countries to secure the rights of workers.
During the addressing, he has informed that GEFONT support groups have been formed in more than 11 destination countries including South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Qatar and Kuwait and GEFONT has been actively mobilizing migrant workers by singing MOU with trade unions of destination countries. He also said that GEFONT has been playing an important role to formulate policies on migration in Nepal.
He also thanks the ITUC for making active involvement of GEFONT in the campaign of ending Kafala System in Qatar. He informed about The Migrant Recruitment Advisor (MRA) digital platform is being operate with the aim of making foreign employment safe and transparent in collaboration with ITUC.
He further said that GEFONT campaign to mobilize migrant workers was established in the world of world, “GEFONT is there, where the workers are.”
