Labour Desk must be established in each local level : Prez Rimal

Central Union of Painters, Plumbers, Electrics and Construction Workers (CUPPEC) Sixth National Convention has been commenced on 10 September, in Kathmandu. Inaugurating the Convention, GEFONT President Cde. Bishnu Rimal congratulated CUPPEC for being strong Affiliate of GEFONT. He also extended warm wishes for CUPPEC to be established as a good model of construction sector union throughout the World.

Addressing the Convention, He said that “New Labour Act  adopted by the Parliament and recently approved by the President of Nepal is labour friendly & it covers entire world of work; ending discriminations among permanent, temporary, contract and daily wage workers .” 



“New labour Act has ensured basic Social protection measures such as such as gratuity, accidental benefits, sickness benefits, Medicare including workers saving- the provident funds is payable from the day one of employment. And  to ensure social protection of workers,  Registration of each workers at the local body is necessary for which Labour Desk at each local level must be established“ He added.

Meanwhile, Deputy Member of ILO Governing Body Cde. Binda Pandey, BWI General Secretary Ambet Yuson, BWI Asia Pacific Coordinator Apolinar Tolentino, Swidesh Painter Union Vice President  Peter Sjöstrand and  Korean Construction Union General Secretary also addressed the convention and conveyed solidarity for the grand success.



Likewise, solidarity messages from CGT France, ACV-BE Belgium & Trade Unions of Ukraine, Turkey, Finland, India and Pakistan have been announced.

 CUPPEC Convention will be concluded on 12 September, electing new leadership for next four Years.
