Competitive Women Leadership needs to be prepared: President Shrestha

Kathmandu, GEFONT President Cde. Binod Shrestha said that Competitive leadership could play an effective role in ending the violence, Saying that GEFONT has been working for that since beginning. women representation of GEFONT is now an example. Speaking at a discussion on violence against women organized by GEFONT, President Shrestha said that women's participation, which started from zero, has increased to 40% in GEFONT leadership level.

He further said that if we put bit more effort women participation can be increased by 50%. Now the female membership in GEFONT has also increased to 29%. Recalling the work done by GEFONT in the past, including the effective participation of women, increasing the number of women membership in the union.



He further said that the former head of the GEFONT women's department is the current president of country and GEFONT is proud of it. President Shrestha said some people are now saying that the incidents of violence have been increased, but rather than increasing the incidents of violence incidents are being public and action has been taken, the Government is now working in a visible way against of violence.

GEFONT is an organization that believes there shouldn’t be any kind of violence against anyone. Society should be strong to make the country strong & house should be strong to make the society strong so that He urged all to strengthen the organization; he further said. To bring women leadership in GEFONT preparation should be done from now on. On the occasion,



Vice President of GEFONT Cde. Mina Gurung said that there is no difference between women and men except gender but still perspective toward women is different than men. she further stressed that the need for change in patriarchal thinking that still women are weak. Vice-President Gurung said that the incidents of violence outside the house were going public but the incidents of violence inside the house were not public in the name of preserving the honor. Saying that GEFONT has been working to reduce the incidence of violence against women from long time, still more work needs to be done to build a society free of violence.



GEFONT Vice President Cde. Manju Thapa has facilitated the session on GEFONT women's policy & programs and about Count us in campaign. Similarly, GEFONT Secretary Cde. Nisha Baniya facilitated on the Convention of the ILO and the laws of Nepal. Representatives of various affiliates of GEFONT, women committee, youth committee had participated in the interaction program.
