Surkhet, GEFONT & ANTUF jointly organized 130th May Day program grandly in Surkhet. Chief Guest of the program, Minister of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment Nandsing Budha said that the government has brought many laws and schemes for workers. He further said that the Karnali province government is committed for workers’ rights. He also informed that province has started the labour approval for migrant workers from province capital.
On the occasion, GEFONT' vice president Cde. Bidur karki expressed concern over the fact that the workers could not get the equal wage for equal work. Vice President further urged to local government to work for the welfare of the workers. Even though labor law & existing laws are workers friendly, effective implementation is not satisfactory. To make the laws more effective he has emphasized to form immediate labor audit system.
ANTUF in charge Cde. Ramdip Acharya said that the grassroots workers are still concealed. He further said “Trade unions still have to work for the welfare and organized grassroots workers.Speaking in the program GEFONT women Committee member Cde. Chandra Dhami Said “Even though the continued effort to the concerned authorities, workers are deprived of rights & facilities provided by the law.
GEFONT Karnali province president Cde. Tej prakash GC said “however, the contribution of workers is important in various political movements for the transformation, Still workers are compiled to work below the minimum wage to secure the works life government have to ensured effective implementation of social security scheme in all sectors.
The program was held under the presidency of Dr. Manbahadur Singh, Secretary of the Ministry. Program was attended by participants from different districts of the province.
Meanwhile, GEFONT Narayan Municipal Committee has organized May Day program in Dailekh.Addressing the gathering, GEFONT Karnali, province Secretary, Cde. Sripal Sarumagar emphasized that workers registration should be started from local government.
Likewise, May Day program has also organized in Kalikot, Jumla, west Rukum.
