​Wokers Problems can be Solve in mutual cooperation; VP Jeetendra Shrestha

Kathmandu, 4th  Convention of GEFONT  Support Group (GSG) Malaysia has been concluded . Convention has elected new GSG Malaysia committee under the presidency of Cde. Prem Kumar Magar.

Addressing the Convention Chief Guest Vice President of GEFONT Cde. Jeetendra Shrestha Briefed about GEFONT Support Groups.  he has highlights that GEFONT has started organizing migrant workers from South Korea & associate them with KCTU now  GSG Korea has convert in Migrant Trade Union (MTU). Now we have more than Nine GSGs active in Destination Countries.

He further said “during this visit he has been to many migrant workers hostels and workers leaving condition are poor they have to adjust themselves even less than 6 fit beds. To improve the workers condition joint effort of GEFONT, Malaysian Trades Union Congress(MTUC) and Nepalese Embassy can make difference. 

He has further added trend has to be change after the 40 years migrant workers return back to Nepal and spend time with family rather than that work in country and spend holidays in abroad. Now Government has announced five hundred thousand employments generate annually which will encourage workers to work in Nepal.


On the occasion labour attaché Sanmaya Ramtel sad “Trade Union can play Bridge roll between Workers and Employer. She has further added Trade Unions, Embassy and other Civil Society have same adjective to help workers so we have to work together.

Ms Ramtel has further highlighted that there are so many problems in Malaysia Like in some places common hostels for ladies and gents which is leading more problems. Now Embassy has launched many facilities to support workers like Facebook live, Phone but still due to scarcity of human resources Embassy couldn’t deliver as per expectation. In some cases workers were not aware on Malaysian labour law so that they have to face problems”

In the program speaking as special guest Mr. J Soloman Secretary General of MTUC said” GEFONT is doing very good on organizing Nepali migrant workers in Malaysia

He further said Previous Malaysian government was not in favor of Workers but now New government is labour friendly so we can hope for new labour friendly policy for workers in Malesiaya and MTUC is always with workers for their rights.
He said employers can treat you well but workers have be aware because once their interest is completed they will show their real face to avoid all kinds challenge in work palace workers have to unite in Trade Union. Works have to keep their document properly to avoid harassment by Employer. 

In the program MTUC education department head Mr. Soma Sundaram briefed about Malaysia Labour Law and Trade Union rights. Employer can’t harass the workers who have joined Trade Unions. He further said if workers face any problem in workplace workers can contact GSG or MTUC.  MTUC has been working with different Trade Unions but working experience with GEFONT is very different.
